CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — Samar Colleges, Inc. (SCI) continued its preparations for the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ratings (formerly known as the THE Impact Rankings) and World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) through a re-echo activity held on the afternoon of October 26, 2026, at the Smart Room, first floor of the Basic Education Building.
The activity brought together key officials, faculty members, and student representatives from each college to discuss the requirements of both ranking initiatives and identify SCI’s programs, projects, and practices that may be included in the submissions.
Dr. Pedrito G. Padilla, Senior Vice President for Academic Programs, delivered the welcome remarks, followed by Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, Senior Vice President for Programs Development and Quality Assurance, who explained the rationale of the activity.

For the THE Impact Ratings, Mr. Donald P. Oliveros and Mr. Victor M. Plasabas Jr. discussed the four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targeted for submission: SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). They also explained the metrics and indicators for each goal to help participants understand the requirements and identify suitable evidence of programs and activities for submission.

For WURI, Ms. Ritchelle D. Jabagat presented the updated submission framework and discussed the changes in this year’s ranking system. She also explained the three original innovation axes: Axis A (For Whom to Innovate), Axis B (How to Innovate), and Axis C (What to Innovate). She likewise stressed the importance of choosing the right category and providing clear evidence to support each innovation case.
Meanwhile, Ms. Yanie Mae C. Cordero discussed the newly added fourth axis of WURI, With Whom to Innovate, which includes eight new categories divided into two groups of goals: Global Common Goals (GCGs) and National Specific Goals (NSGs). Her discussion also included tips on writing impactful WURI cases, as well as the contents of the template to which the writers will work on.
This undertaking encouraged offices and academic units to work together in identifying and documenting programs and practices that may be included in the upcoming rankings.
Through the re-echo activity, Samar Colleges continues to prepare for the 2027 submissions by building on its existing programs and good practices and showing how these contribute to innovation and sustainable development.
